Advisory teacher support
The Music Service has team of 4 teachers who provide free curriculum support for music to borough schools who ‘buy-in’ the Music Service.

Three of the teachers specialise in curriculum support in primary, infant, junior and special schools. These advisory teachers work with teachers in schools supporting them with the delivery of the National Curriculum for Music. Schools indicate their request for this service by filling in a request form sent to them in the summer term. Each school is then allocated a teacher for a morning or afternoon a week for a whole term. Demand for these sessions is very high and schools are advised to send in their requests as soon as possible.

The teachers support and advise on all areas of the music curriculum, on recent publications and resources and help teachers in the delivery of the National Curriculum.

Professional development
Inset courses are provided on a regular basis at the John Savage Centre and these can also be provided at a school during the term the advisory teacher is in the school.

Library resources
The John Savage Centre houses an extensive Resource Library which schools can use free of charge.

The library covers a variety of areas including:
· classroom resources
· songs
· orchestral and ensemble materials
· recorder music
· reference materials

World Music
Redbridge Music Service has its own Gamelan at the John Savage Centre and schools are offered free sessions which provide an invaluable insight into the history and culture of Javanese Gamelan and the opportunity to play these amazing instruments. No previous musical experience is necessary.

The Music Service also offers schools individual ‘custom’ World percussion or Western percussion recitals. This is in addition to the weekly published school recital schedule.

ICT support can be offered to schools who wish to develop new or existing resources. This Service is aimed particularly at secondary school music departments and to support GCSE and AS/A2. For more information contact the Deputy Director of Redbridge Music Service (Schools Support).
