2014

As the Cabinet Member for Leisure and Community Services, I would like to congratulate all the participants and organisers of the Redbridge Schools Choral Festival 2014 "Hopes and Dreams" at the Royal Albert Hall.

It was a magnificent concert. The selection and variety of the pieces presented was so well thought out. The performances of the singers and musicians was of an incredibly high standard. The use of the overhead screens to show some of the excellent art work from children at a selection of schools to fit in with the songs was imaginative. The way that the screens were also used to interpret and emphasise the messages that the songs and music were conveying was so moving and so original.  Eric you and your staff must be so proud of what was achieved by so many people at the festival.  My thanks and appreciation to everyone involved, be it young people, choirs, musicians, staff, technicians, parents the friends and everyone that played their part in the production of such a memorable evening in an incredible venue. I must not forget Vivyan Ellacott for his professional and articulate comparing. What a fantastic display of talent from Redbridge Music School was on display for all to enjoy and be proud of, be it a participant or the audience.  Thank you to you all for a night I shall remember for a long time.  My very best wishes and congratulations to you all for bringing such enjoyment to so many people.

Cllr Joyce Ryan, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Community Services.

Eric,

I thoroughly enjoyed yesterday evening's concert and write to thank you for the opportunity to be part of the event. It was, I think, my 9th consecutive Albert Hall concert and I am delighted to hear that the prospects are good for there being a 10th in 2014!

We in the NRWO are very proud of our association with the Music Service, and grateful for all the help we have received over the years, and it is pleasing to me that we were so well represented at the concert by singers, schoolteachers, helpers, players and a wonderful composer/conductor who are all members of our group.

You should be justifiably proud of the performance as a whole and of the enduring tradition of high quality contribution that the Music Service makes to life in the Borough. Long may it continue.

The proposed hub will no doubt offer exciting new opportunities and if the NRWO can help in any way please let me know.

Hi Eric,

. . . we would all like to say how wonderful it was yet again to be part of the extravaganza at the Royal Albert Hall. The children gain so much from the experience and we are all so proud of what they achieve.   The Redbridge Music Service truly offers such amazing opportunities for our young people.  Thank you – it was very reassuring to know that it will continue!

Regards and well done once again!

Dear Eric

I wanted to take a moment to tell you how impressed I was with the Albert Hall concert on Thursday evening – my first experience of this Redbridge event. The music was wonderful and the physical setting glorious but what was most remarkable about the evening was the spectacle of so many children participating together in an event that they will surely remember for the rest of their lives.  It was all brilliantly orchestrated – and the amazement on the faces of the primary school children when they found a Chinese dragon among them was something to behold.

Congratulations – and thank you!

Dear Mr Forder,

I had to write to you and let you know how much we all enjoyed the concert at the Royal Albert Hall last week.  And how thrilled and relieved I am that thank goodness it won't be the last one, as had been threatened.  The concert was incredible and, in my opinion, the best one ever.  The sheer enjoyment was written all over the children's faces, and it brought a tear to my eye.  The atmosphere in the RAH was electric, and I found some of the pieces very emotional.  I especially enjoyed Chris Wilcox's "Olympic Visions".  What a terrific piece and what a talented composer he is.

The orchestra were absolutely phenomenal (as always), and the dedication and hard work of all the Music School staff and Friends was so apparent.  I have put 18 March 2014 in my diary and am sure that the next one will be just as brilliant as all the other concerts have been.

Credit to you and all your staff - a truly amazing evening, and a real achievement for Redbridge. Well done all.

Regards,

Dear Sir,

Yesterday evenings concert at the Albert Hall organised by Redbridge Music Service was one of the most moving cultural and educational experiences I can remember. Thousands of school children, watched by us the parents; sang, danced and played to a professional standard that simply took one’s breath away. Everyone stood at the beginning to sing the National Anthem, and again at the end to sing Jerusalem with enthusiasm. Redbridge is a diverse borough as well as one of the highest achieving local authorities in the country in terms of educational standards. Children, parents and teachers, of many ethnic and religious backgrounds came together to demonstrate how it really is possible for us to do great and inspiring things together: as a nation.

Yours Faithfully

Dear Mr Forder,

I felt that I just had to write to you to congratulate you and the whole team at RMS on another fantastic evening at the Royal Albert Hall last week. I know that you must all put so much hard work into organising the concert, which was to your credit as it all went so smoothly and was so professional. I always find the evening incredibly moving, to hear all those young voices enjoying their singing so much, and this year was no exception. The orchestra were absolutely amazing; they really excelled themselves this year!

The first choral festival that I took part in was 1978, when I was at Redbridge Junior School, and then I was in another two or three after that at Beal. I am so happy that my children are able to participate in something that is simply so wonderful and something that will stay in their memory forever! After all, how many children can say that they have performed at the Royal Albert Hall? Certainly not that many- outside of Redbridge that is!

Anyway thank you again for a wonderful evening- can’t wait for 2010!

Kind Regards

Dear Eric,

Heartiest congratulations to you and all the teachers, musicians and supporters who gave the borough a superb choral festival at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday. The standards achieved by the pupils from all the schools that participated were exceptionally high. It was really quite excellent and the music a delight and pleasure. I have attended all 17 of these concerts and although it is impossible, indeed invidious, to make comparison, I honestly believe this festival was one of, if not the, best. It was a magnificent achievement.

I would very much like a CD when these are produced. If it is not too late, I would very much like to reserve tickets for each of the three ends of season concerts. Not only are these concerts so enjoyable, they also represent yet another year of the hard work of the music service and our young choristers and musicians.

With kindest regards and good wishes,

Geoffrey Brewer

I am so pleased that my sister-in-law flew in from Ireland to experience and share in the evening with me. She, like everyone else, was full of praise and overwhelmed by the concert.

Dear Eric,

I cannot tell you how proud and delighted I was to be at the 17th biennial Redbridge Schools Choral Festival at the Royal Albert Hall as the Mayor. It was a wonderful evening and one that will stay in my thoughts for a long time.

What a fantastic music service we have, really dedicated staff and talented students all working together to make inspiring music. I thought the chosen pieces of music were excellent, a nice selection and a good variety.

I was particularly pleased with the finale; I am a real fan of Les Miserables, having seen it at least twelve times! The singing of Jerusalem too is very special, particularly at the Albert Hall I feel.  I know that a great deal of hard work went into producing such an awe inspiring concert and I am grateful to all those involved.

Eric, please pass on my congratulations, thanks and best wishes to all your staff and schools involved.

A quick message Eric before my sister in law has got to get moving to the airport. What a wonderful night! I was so proud and privileged that the biennial came in my year. I will write a letter properly later today but I thought I just had to say thank you and congratulations to all those involved for a magical evening!

Dear Eric,

Just a quick message to say how much my children, parents, staff and I enjoyed the very emotional and powerful evening last night. I was with the Waltham Forest School at the O2 in December for the national junior voices 07 festival, but last night knocked spots off it. Well done to you, your staff, and friends.

Hello Eric,

Many people have been complementary about the Klezmer item and I was proud of the performance the children gave. It was particularly impressive given the lack of space and lack of radio mics, which meant last minute changes to the choreography.

I understand there will be a world music night on July 14. If the children could have the opportunity to perform again I’m sure they would love to do so. All the hard work is done now and it would be great to have another chance to enjoy the results.

Thank you for all you do to organise the choral festival. For the first time I was able to watch most of it from above as I wasn’t able to sit with my school and I thought the singing and playing were both of a very high standard. A real tribute to Re dbridge, and the Music Service.

Dear Mr Forder,

I am writing to say how much my husband and I enjoyed the Redbridge schools music festival at the Albert Hall last night. The orchestra was wonderful, the choirs sounded beautiful and the Yiddish dance group were a pleasure to watch. It was lovely to see so many children together all having such a good time. Thank you to you and all the people involved in making it a wonderful event to attend, both for the children and parents alike.

My daughter was lucky enough to be chosen to dance with the Yiddish dance group, and it has been an amazing experience not only for her, but for all involved. They first met at the end of last year, with various differing experiences of dance- some had done more, others had done very little. Yet they all bonded together under the amazing leadership of Allison Woodward. How lucky Redbridge is to have someone like her, not only have the children learnt a new form of dance, but they have developed their interpersonal skills whilst having fun learning new things and exercising at the same time. Allison has worked tirelessly with them, even with an injury herself, to reach the high standard we saw last night, and they were a credit to all their hard work. It would be lovely to think this was the start of something new, and that it might become a regular item in the choral festival to allow more children to participate in such a worthwhile event. It really is a shame to think that this dance, which they all worked so hard on, may only be seen once. Perhaps if you are having any other events this year they could perform it again for you as I know they all enjoyed it from the smiles on their faces.

Thank you for all the good work you and your team do with the young people of Redbridge.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Shepherd

Hi Eric,

I just wanted to express my thanks to you and your team for facilitating such a magnificent choral festival yesterday. The children of Wanstead Church School had a wonderful time and so did I. Like our mayor, I believe Redbridge has the best music service in the country. The quality of performance was outstanding, and it is great to see so many of our former pupils singing with the secondary choirs or playing in the symphony orchestra.

Events like these make Redbridge seem more like a family and certainly a local authority that we are extremely proud to work for. Once again thank you very much indeed.

Dear Mr Forder,

On behalf of JMI I want to thank you for inviting all of us to the choral festival last night. I must congratulate you on the programme and the performance, but most of all the presentation was amazing. The way you introduced it all and how those thousands of children took part was extraordinary.

Your aims are so important in the present world and we wish you every success in the future. Please do keep in contact.

Yours Sincerely

Dear Eric,

I hope the rest of the show went as well as ‘Deep Space 9’ because if it did, it must have been great. I certainly walloped that last top C which blew the strings of the harp in front! A great triumph for the service, I hope there were many favourable and great comments on the show.

Dear Eric,

I wanted to say what a wonderful evening it was last night.  I think it was the best ever and so moving, especially the last piece from ‘Les Miserables’. The mayor from Richmond was a guest of Councillor Mrs Ryan last night, and came up to me and said “we have nothing like this in Richmond, it’s fantastic!”

I am just so proud of our music service, long may it continue to reign. Please pass on my thanks to all the members of the Music Teaching Staff, they were all superb and work so hard to achieve the highest standards.

Once again an absolutely magical evening and one that I’m sure no one will forget.

Kind Regards
